Don't Forget About This Little Girl...

All she wants is some love and attention. She has been doing so well with Baby Kay. She ignores her for the most part! Every now and then, she will sniff her face or lick her hand. I guess that is all we could ask for. Lexi seems to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder, but she is slowly coming out of it.

She has rejoined the ranks of camp Lexi. She is no longer sleeps alone in the front room.

This little sweetie is just looking for some activity. With the warm weather, I owe this good girl some long walks, some frisbee and chuck-it throwing at the park, and some swims in the lake. I promise little girl that I will make the past few months up to you. I tried to start yesterday, but she could see through me. A few lame attempts at frisbee throwing in the backyard doesn't get me very far, but it is better than nothing.

How MY Life Has Changed - By Lexi

Okay, my mom is not telling you the truth. She is making everything seems like roses and daisies over here and that is not the case! My life has changed drastically, and I don't see it getting any better any time soon.

First of all, I was blindsided! I was not warned of this intruder in my house, and I feel betrayed. All of a sudden they came home with this thing. They pay attention to it all day long! My mom holds it and talks to it all day. What about me?!? Am I chopped liver?

They made me give up my sleeping quarters. I no longer sleep under their bed in Camp Lexi. THEY make me sleep in the guest bedroom alone! How RUDE! Okay, they don't make me, but they had that thing in their room and what was a Dudes to do?!

That thing makes so much noise! It grunts and bops and cries! Why don't they make it stop? I have to run and tell them that it is crying! Don't they hear it?!? When I try to cry and screech with it, they tell me to stop. Double Standard.

They either let me outside and leave me there for too long or they don't let me out. I used to get the run of the house. They would let me in and out 100 times a day. They have given that up. Now, they sit on the couch with the thing and they don't get up as much!

Oh and talk about getting outside. What happened to the park?!?! My mom used to take me out all the time.   We used to go for long walks and I could chase anything I wanted. Thank goodness for my dad because he still takes me to chase the tennis ball.

This thing smells. It has smelled up everything in the house. I can't get away from the smell! On top of that, they want me to get near it, but I won't. I sniffed it a few times to make sure the smell was coming from it, but that is as far as I'll go. I don't even want to look at it. As a matter of fact, I don't want to look at my mom. So I don't think I will unless that thing is NOT around. I will just turn my back. That will teach them.

They have even moved my toys! I used to have a toy box, and now there is a pack and play in the way. At first, I couldn't get to my toys. Then, they moved my toy box and they didn't even have the nerve to tell me!

Lately, I have been laying around a lot. They say they aren't getting much sleep, but I am. I sleep all day. What else is a poor doggie with a baby to do?!? I just want to know one thing... Am I still your #1 girl?

Poor Dudes - 2nd Edition

I am sure you are all dying to know how Lexi is doing? With a new baby, Lexi and her world have been turned upside down. She is actually handling the whole situation better than expected. But I still feel bad for my poor Dudes.

Dobbie had been bringing home things that the baby wore in the hospital for Lexi to sniff. Lexi had a hat  from the baby and a blanket from the baby. Dobbie said Lexi actually slept with her head on the blanket one night! With me being in the hospital for three days, I was worried Lexi was probably missing me and feeling upset already.

We brought the baby home, and we were nervous. I had read that the dog and baby should meet on "neutral" territory. We had Lexi come outside and we tried to introduce them in the driveway. Lexi was too excited to see me and that didn't really work out. So, we went inside and we set the peanut on the floor in her car seat. Lexi was really hesitant to go up to the car seat, but she did put her neck out and sniff the peanut. She had NO IDEA what this little thing was! Dobbie and I think that she thought it was some type of rodent. It didn't help that Baby Kay made little peeps and squeaks like a little mouse.

Lexi has been doing great. At first, she spent a LOT of time outside in the backyard. She didn't want to come in. My AMAZING mom stayed with us when we brought the baby home, and she spent lots of time loving Lexi up. She took her to the park and played with her in the backyard. I really think this helped Lexi get used to the new peanut. Lexi will sniff the baby's head or foot, but she keeps her distance. In the beginning, she growled once or twice, but not anymore. Now, she just stares at the peanut. She HATES when the baby cries, and she comes running to check it out.

Lexi is interested in the baby, but she is scared of her. I wonder when they will become friends. I hope Lexi comes around. She doesn't sleep in our room anymore and she doesn't seem as spunky. My poor Dudes.

When I lay the baby down...

Lexi is always close by.

We still love you, Dudes. Come back and sleep under the bed. Camp Lexi misses you. You are a good girl.

A Day Off

Yesterday, I had a much needed day off. It was so wonderful to have some time to myself, and I had plans. I had BIG plans. I wanted to go to my classroom and finish up some projects. My goal is to get ahead of the game. I had every intention of going to school for a few hours then hitting up Destination Maternity. I have been talking about going shopping all week. I think I am secretly putting it off because I am dreading trying on clothes and looking at myself in the mirror. I had every intention of cleaning my house and finally tackling this dreadful job.

Instead, I had an impromptu day of cooking and hanging out with Lexi! I have always made homemade pesto. However, I always just "guestimated" the ingredients. I would usually end of with pesto that was too wet or pesto that was a little too garlicky. It still tasted delicious though! I decided to try again with a little help from MckMama. You can find her homemade pesto recipe here.

I started with a beautiful bunch of home grown basil that I picked up at Duffield's Farm Market yesterday on my way home from work.

I am practicing with my 50mm f/1.8 lens. I love the blurry background.

I put it on Barilla spinach and ricotta tortellini and it was delicious! I have leftovers for lunch at work today too!
Mmm Mmm Good!

Other than that, I threw the frisbee for Lexi and just relaxed and hung out around the house. There is nothing better than a day off like that. One thing is for sure...Lexi loved it (not that you could tell from the pictures!)
Too busy looking for squirrels to chase.

Poor Dudes...my only muse. My little girl is 3 already and look at how her face is turning gray!

Sunday Funday

My favorite thing to do in the summer is spend a day with Dudes. In the summer, we go exploring and last summer we found a new favorite spot, Stella's Lake (aka Big Sandy). Usually, our adventures include my mom and her two dogs, Stevie and Sixy. This Sunday, we enjoyed our last perfect summer day, but without the rest of our gang. After going to work for a few days last week, Dudes was feeling a little bummed. We spent all summer together so she was upset that she wasn't getting any action.

I decided to take her for one last adventure. She LOVED it!

My dudes runs like a crazy woman, up and down the trails (usually Stevie would be right on her tail). Her favorite thing of all is swimming...she is OBSESSED with her flappy and she will stop at nothing to get me to throw it in the water.

Oh Mommy, please throw it, please please please!

To finish off our perfect day, we stopped at Stella's farm market.

It is my all time favorite place in the summer. They have the best peaches, tomatoes, and corn I have ever tasted. I wanted to stock up because summer is coming to a close, and I wanted to cut the peaches and freeze them to use throughout the fall. They are so good in smoothies and muffins. I want to freeze some fresh corn for soups and stews this fall too. There is nothing better than Stella's sweet corn.

Just picked and getting unloaded!

Look at all of these wonderful tomatoes! They are so good. It was a perfect day and I am so sad that it was one of my last days like this until next summer! I can't wait to bring our baby girl next summer!

Poor Dudes

My dudes is not feeling too good. We have so much fun together during the summer. We go for long walks, we go to the lake, we go to dog parks, and we go to the creek. For the past 5 days, she has been throwing up all of her food, and we can't really do anything. It is usually after she eats then takes a big drink. It is strange because she isn't really acting sick so it is hard to tell what is wrong with her. But I don't know any doggie who throws up after they take a drink?!?!

I called the vet, and they told me to give her the special delicious diet of .... boiled chicken and rice. Disgusting. The thought of the plain chicken breast boiling makes me gag, but it worked. For a day. She was sick again tonight. I am beginning to wonder if her daddy is sneaking her treats when I am not looking.

Get better Dudes because summer is almost over, and we only have a few more days of having fun!
